Kevät tulee vauhdilla. Harakan eteläpuolella meri on avoin. Jään pinta mantereen puolella on pehmeä eilisen sateen jälkeen, mutta kantaa vielä hyvin, ainakin polun kohdalla. Sininen köysi jään poikki, joka on Harakan päässä kiinnitetty laituriin, luo oudon turvallisuuden tunteen. Jos jää yhtäkkiä pettäisi, siihen voisi tarttua ja kiskoa itsensä jään päälle tai jopa rantaan saakka. Mutta vaikutus on kyllä lähinnä psykologinen, jää on vielä paksu. Sitäpaitsi jää ei tuntunut heikolta edes rannoilla, koska jäällä ei ollut vettä. Ensi sunnuntaina tilanne voi jo olla huonompi. Mutta nyt käveleminen saaren on vielä silkkaa ylellisyyttä.

Det blå repet över isen, som är fäst vid bryggan på Stora räntan, skapar en underlig känsla av trygghet. Ifall isen plötsligt skulle ge vika, skulle man kunna ta fatt i repet och dra sig upp på isen igen, eller till och med ändå fram till stranden. Men effekten är nog mest psykologisk, isen är fortfarande tjock. Dessutom kändes isen inte alls svag ens vid stränderna, eftersom det inte fanns vatten på isen. Nästa söndag kan läget redan vara sämre. Men just nu är det en ren lyx att promenera till ön.

The blue rope across the ice, which is fastened by the pier on the island, creates a strange feeling of safety. In case the ice would suddenly break, one could grab the rope and drag oneself up on the ice, perhaps all the way to the shore. The effect is mainly psychological, though, since the ice is still thick. And it did not feel weak near the shore, since there was no water on the ice. Next Sunday the situation might be worse.
